Invoice Generator for Ireland

By Harlequin Doyon

If you're a sole trader, contractor, or company invoicing in Ireland, the essentials are straightforward: euro amounts, a proper VAT breakdown if you're registered, and clean sequential numbering. Speed Invoices gives you all of that in a free online editor — no signup, no watermark, and your invoice data stays in your browser.

The anatomy of an Irish invoice

Every invoice should carry:

  • Your name or business name, address, and contact details.
  • Your VAT number — if you're VAT-registered.
  • Your customer's name and address.
  • A sequential invoice number — a continuous series with no gaps.
  • The date of issue (and supply date where it differs).
  • Line items — a clear description, quantity, and unit price for each.
  • The VAT summary — net amount, VAT rate, VAT amount, and gross total.

If you're not VAT-registered, leave the VAT line and number off entirely — the invoice just shows your amounts and the total due.

Ireland's VAT rate in practice

The standard VAT rate in Ireland is 23% — one of the higher standard rates in Europe, so it's worth showing the breakdown clearly rather than burying it in the total. For a €500 consulting engagement:

  • Net amount: €500.00
  • VAT (23%): +€115.00
  • Total due: €615.00

Your client sees exactly what portion is tax, and if they're VAT-registered themselves, that line is what they reclaim.

From blank page to PDF in a minute

In Speed Invoices, set the currency to EUR, add a 23% VAT tax line, and the totals (with any discounts) calculate automatically. Configure your invoice numbering to continue your existing series, add your logo, write detailed line descriptions with rich text, and pick from a choice of PDF templates before downloading.

The same editor produces quotes, credit notes, receipts, and purchase orders, so a quote you send in January can become a matching invoice in February.

When invoicing becomes routine

The editor and PDF download are free forever. If you're billing retainer clients on a schedule, Pro ($5/mo) adds recurring invoices, scheduled sends, payment reminders, and sending from your own domain.

Invoicing across the Irish Sea or into the EU? VAT works at different rates in the UK and in Germany — each has its own page.
