What an Indian invoice should include

• Your details — business name, address, and your GSTIN if you're GST-registered.
• Your client's details — name, address, and their GSTIN for B2B invoices.

• Dates — issue date, and a due date so payment terms are clear.
• Line items — description, quantity, rate, and amount for each service or product.

How GST works on the invoice

GST is charged in rate slabs — commonly 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28% — with 18% typical for services. For a supply within your own state you split the rate into CGST + SGST (9% + 9% for an 18% supply); for an inter-state supply you charge a single IGST line at the full rate.

A quick example for an 18% service billed inter-state:

• Consulting services: ₹50,000
• IGST (18%): +₹9,000
• Total: ₹59,000
