What belongs on a Dutch factuur

Dutch invoices carry two identifiers most other countries don't pair together: your BTW-id (VAT identification number) and your KVK number (Chamber of Commerce registration). Beyond those, a factuur should include:

• Your details — name or company name and address, plus BTW-id and KVK number.
• Your client's details — name and address (and their BTW-id for B2B within the EU).
• Factuurnummer — a sequential invoice number with no gaps in the series.
• Factuurdatum — the issue date, plus the delivery date if different.
• Line items — description, quantity, and price per item, excluding BTW.
• BTW breakdown — the rate and amount per rate applied, then the total including BTW.

BTW at 21% — a quick example

The standard BTW rate is 21%, with a reduced 9% rate for certain goods and services. Billing a client €1,500 for web development:

• Webdevelopment: €1,500
• BTW (21%): +€315
• Totaal: €1,815
